Georgians stand to benefit from a bill passed to create first-of-a-kind state incentives to increase energy efficiency and shift us towards cleaner sources of energy. But without strong public support, Governor Perdue may veto this bill.

UPDATE: Thank you to the hundreds of people who have already sent faxes to the Governors office. We know that the Governor and his staff have taken notice, but we are still waiting on a commitment that he will sign the bill.

Promoting clean energy and energy efficiency can help conserve the environment while creating jobs and helping us save money.

The Georgia General Assembly passed HB 670 as the 2008 legislative session ended last week. HB 670, sponsored by Rep. Chuck Sims, helps promote clean energy (solar and wind) and energy efficiency technology (geothermal, lighting, and efficient buildings). Specifically, it creates tax credits for individuals and businesses that purchase and install equipment as part of an investment in wind, solar or geothermal energy production or energy efficiency.

This bill is offering incentives to drive the economic development potential of clean energy.

Unfortunately, the legislative session ended with disagreements and major decisions unresolved among our states political leaders.
