The Transit Planning Board is soliciting public comments on its Concept 3 vision for a greatly expanded regional transit system. Strong public support is needed to push the plan forward.

Metro Atlanta residents suffer very long, unhealthy commutes on clogged roadways. Atlanta's air is the sixth highest in the country for fine particle pollution, the 12th highest for ozone (smog) and our roadways are the biggest source of the problem. With rising gas prices more and more residents choose transit, but many have no good transit choices between home and work.

The Transit Planning Board (TPB) has developed a strong plan for a comprehensive regional transit system, but many questions remain about how to implement and pay for the multi-county system. Strong public support is needed to push the plan forward.


The TPB is a joint venture between the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA). It is established through joint resolution of the governing boards of the three agencies. The TPB was created to address the need for a clear institutional and financing structure to expand transit in the Atlanta region. Its primary mission is the creation of a regional transit plan and, subsequently, a new regional source of funds to implement and operate the system.
