Tell the Georgia House of Representatives you want smarter transportation investment.

You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom.

Issue

The Georgia House of Representatives will vote on HB277 to raise a statewide sales tax for transportation projects. The bill does not ensure that the money raised will be used for transit investment for metro Atlanta.

Background

The Georgia House of Representatives is expected to vote on House Bill 277, which would impose a one-cent sales tax to pay for a statewide list of transportation projects. Although the list several transit projects, it specifies a large number of road projects including highway lane expansions and a tunnel beneath Atlanta. The cost of the listed project is certain to exceed the revenue raised by the tax and the bill does not specify which projects will receive funding. In addition, HB277 does not guarantee that any funding will be available for the operations cost of any transit expansion.

Vote No on HB277

Dear Representative,

We need certainty in any new transportation investment. Passing HB277 does not provide enough certainty on how and where the new transportation money would be used. We need certainty that any new transportation money will be used for the projects that Atlantans want and need, not just more of the same.

Thank you,
