Thank Excelsior EMC for Saying No to Coal

You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom.

Issue

Four of ten electric cooperatives announced they have pulled out of investing in a risky and dirty coal-fired power plant in middle Georgia. Show your support for the decision to move away from dirty coal and encourage them to invest in clean energy.

Background

Electric cooperatives pulling away from a coal plant is a first step in the process to end Georgia's addiction to dirty energy. Georgia electric utilities should invest in clean, reliable energy sources available today, such as biomass from farms and forest, wind power, solar power and energy efficiency. Push your electric co-op to continue to move away from coal and towards clean energy.

Thank You for Saying No to Coal.

Dear Mr. Drake,

I wish to thank you for your part in the decision to pull out of the Power4Georgians group and end your involvement in Plant Washington. I applaud the growing realization that changing environmental regulations and an unsteady financial market makes investing in coal too risky. Thank you for not passing that risk onto your members and other Georgians.

There is no doubt that that clean energy, including efficiency improvements and renewables, is available, reliable, and affordable. Instead of investing in coal, I encourage your investment in these valuable resources that can provide sustainable jobs and economic activity for all Georgians. Not only will this prove to be a wise choice for our economy, but it will help improve the health of Georgia's environment and those who live in it.

Sincerely,

Your name and address here
